Choose One Role

Stop trying to fit everywhere

Introduction

Last week, we focused on clarity.

Now that you have direction, the next step is simple — but not easy:

choose one role and commit to it.

The reality

Many job seekers try to apply for:

  • different roles
  • different industries
  • anything that is available

It feels safe.

But in reality, it creates confusion.

The problem

When you apply to multiple roles:

  • your resume becomes inconsistent
  • your message becomes unclear
  • employers don’t know where you fit

👉 You become harder to trust.

The core idea

Focus creates strength.

Instead of saying:

“I can do many things”

Say:

👉 “This is my role”

Why this matters

Employers are not looking for potential.

They are looking for:

  • clarity
  • relevance
  • confidence

When your role is clear:

  • your resume becomes stronger
  • your applications become sharper
  • your chances increase

A simple rule

👉 One role

👉 One direction

👉 One message

You can always expand later.

But first, you must focus.

🎯 This week’s action

Take 15–20 minutes:

  1. List 2–3 roles you are considering
  2. Compare them honestly
  3. Choose one primary role

Then:

👉 Update your resume to match ONLY that role

⚠️ What to avoid

  • applying to multiple unrelated roles
  • changing your resume every time
  • saying “I am open to anything”

👉 That weakens your position.

A shift to remember

You don’t get hired for everything you can do.

You get hired for what you clearly represent.
